Is There a Dispensary in Columbia, SC? An Honest Answer
We get this question almost every week: at the counter, in our messages, from people who pulled in off Two Notch Road to ask. So here's the straight answer, from people who'd rather you hear it plainly.
So let me just out the answer out there..
No. Not yet.South Carolina doesn't have marijuana dispensaries. Not recreational, not medical. As of September 2026, marijuana is still illegal here.
The medical bill, the Compassionate Care Act (S.53), got filed again this session. It's sitting in committee. It hasn't gone anywhere.
So when you see a shop in Columbia using the word "dispensary," what you're looking at is a hemp store. Nobody in this state holds a license to sell marijuana. Nobody.
I'd rather you hear that from me than figure it out in the parking lot.
So what can you buy here?
Hemp-derived products. Under federal law, hemp is the cannabis plant with no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. That's the line. Stuff made from hemp is what you'll find on shelves around Columbia:

Tinctures
Gummies and other edibles
Topicals
Hemp-derived THC drinks
THCa Inhalants
What's changing, and when
I've written about this before, and I'll keep writing about it, because it matters to everybody who shops with us.
Federal. Congress changed the rules for hemp. Some of those changes hit on November 12, 2026, including limits on synthetic cannabinoids, the stuff that doesn't occur naturally in the plant. The bigger piece, how THC gets measured and how much can go in a container, got pushed to December 11, 2026. I talked about that delay in One Month Isn't a Win. It's a Deadline. It still isn't a win. I'll update this post as those dates get closer.
State. This year the legislature tried to put rules on hemp THC sales in South Carolina, including an age limit. It also would have moved most hemp THC sales into liquor stores.
THC products would have been limited to drinks and gummies, with a 10mg cap per serving.
Every other shop could only apply to sell one thing: a 12oz drink with 5mg or less, kept behind the counter.
Restaurant sales would have been banned, and alcohol-style distance rules would have pushed many existing shops out.
I think that's a problem. So we made our own rule. More on that below.
How to shop a hemp store the right way
It doesn't matter if it's my shop or somebody else's. Here's what I'd tell my own family:
Ask for the lab report. It's called a COA. It should come from a third-party lab and match the batch in your hand. If a shop gets funny about showing it to you, that tells you what you need to know.
Read the label. Know what's in one serving and what's in the whole package before you pay for it.
Buy from somebody who checks ID. A shop that'll sell to anybody isn't being careful about anything else, either.
Walk out on health promises. If somebody tells you a hemp product is going to cure or treat something, leave. Nobody can legally promise you that, and anybody who does is telling you something about how they run their business.

Everything's lab-tested. Ask to see the COA on anything we carry. I'll pull it up.
21 and up for all hemp products, ID checked every time. The state doesn't make us. We do it anyway.
You'll get a straight answer. No pressure, no jargon, no guessing. Sometimes the straight answer is "that's not for you," and I'll tell you that too.

Are there any dispensaries in Columbia, SC? No. South Carolina has no recreational or medical marijuana dispensaries. Shops using that word are selling hemp-derived products.
