Why I Opened This Place

Here's the honest answer. Before this shop, my income came from the bakery — Tiffany's, the family business. Opening The Advanced Apothecary meant walking away from something steady to build something that wasn't guaranteed to work at all. I didn't do that because I had it all figured out. I did it because I kept watching people — friends, customers, my own family — turn to hemp and have nowhere local and normal to go get it. Everything out there was either a gas station rack with no one who could answer a single question, or it felt like you needed a password to walk in the door.

I wanted something in between. A place where you could grab a coffee like you would anywhere else, and if you had a question about hemp, somebody behind the counter could give you a straight answer instead of a sales pitch.

We opened the doors in December. It was just me and one employee, Ed, running the whole thing — still is, most days. I priced things fair, I only carry what I'd hand to my own family, and I built the wellness side the same way I'd want someone to build it for me: no pressure, no jargon, no guessing.

It hasn't been easy. Retail is hard, hemp retail is harder because half of Washington is still arguing about whether we're allowed to exist, and small businesses don't come with a manual. There have been slow months that scared me. But every time someone comes back just to say hello, or stands at the counter and talks for twenty minutes because they didn't have anywhere else to do that, it reminds me why I took the risk.

This isn't a big chain. It's a shop on Two Notch Road, run by people who live here, built for the people who live here. If you haven't stopped in yet, come see what I mean.
